Frequently asked questions.
How do I calculate a discount?
Sale Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% / 100). A 30% discount on $80 = $80 × 0.70 = $56.
How do I find the discount amount?
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount% / 100). 30% off $80 = $80 × 0.30 = $24 saved.
If something is "30% off", what does that mean?
You pay 70% of the original price. The seller removes 30% from the price as a discount.
What is the sale price after 20% off $150?
$150 × (1 − 20/100) = $150 × 0.80 = $120. You save $30.
How do I find the original price from a sale price and discount?
Original = Sale Price ÷ (1 − Discount% / 100). Use our Reverse Percentage Calculator for this.
What is a double discount (e.g. 20% off then 10% off)?
Apply discounts sequentially, not additively. 20% off then 10% off on $100 = $100 × 0.80 × 0.90 = $72, not $70.
